Beefy Beef Noodle & Bubble Tea House

Update: This restaurant has closed.

Beefy Beef Noodle

We usually do tend to bypass Vancouver itself and straight for downtown for meals.  However, we infrequently step foot inside Vancouver to enjoy its restaurants.  In an effort to try as many Taiwanese beef noodle places as possible, we pulled ourselves together, dusted ourselves off and ventured in Vancouver.

Vancouver parking

This is one big reason why we don’t come to Vancouver often –  the parking.  As terrible as driving conditions (or its drivers) are in Richmond, Vancouver retail shops offer a very meager parking availability for its customers.  I do understand the predicament regarding space, however, the situation exists.  It seems like because they’re owned by the same people that opened No. 1 Beef Noodle, they needed to find a place with the same poor parking arrangements.

Beefy Beef Noodle: interior

The inside of the place was a bit different than the other Taiwanese places in Richmond.  In comparison to the modern look of Pearl Castle and Tri-ty, Beefy Beef went for the traditional look using mainly wood and other dark-colored materials as the central theme.  It felt more ‘at home’ than the modern places.

Beefy Beef Noodle

The beef noodle arrived first.  The noodle itself definitely had ‘substance’.  It was ‘meatier’ than most other noodles I have tried and the bouncy/chewy texture which Wendy and I enjoy.  There were only 3 pieces of beef slices in there, but they were not tiny pieces so I considered it a compromise.  The soup base was excellent.  It was not too salty and had a rich beef flavor embedded in every sip of it.  Well done.

Beefy Beef Noodle: Shanghai Little Dragon Buns

The Shanghai Little Dragon Buns were a disappointment.  Of course, it is not the best place to order these as we’re not in a Shanghainese restaurant but I tried them anyways.  There were hardly any soup inside the bun to speak of and the wrap itself was quite thick.  Wendy let me eat six of the eight offered and just reminded ourselves how great the noodles were.

Beefy Beef Noodle: Fluffy Milk Thick Toast

I was not that hungry, so I tried to order the Fluffy Milk Thick Toast (as indicated by the Chinese name).  It came out completely different than I had imagined.  It was just condensed milk on top and that was basically it.  I was very dissatisfied as the toast went down ‘dry’ and flavorless.  I have had way too many disappointments lately regarding this treat.  Sigh….

Beefy Beef Noodle: bill

All in all, a very decent and cheap outing at Beefy Beef Noodle House.  Why? Despite the dissatisfactory results of the bun and thick toast, the main reason why most people go to this place lies its name – Beef Noodles!  If you are coming here, you are likely to get that and for that you will be served well and left satisfied; and so did we.

  1. If you like milk toast, I would suggest you try the ones at Cattle Cafe in Richmond. I was just there and though I didn’t order it, I saw many patrons that did. They look very cute as they are cut up into tiny squares with butter on top. Also, I have heard that they have the best egg waffles this side of the Pacific. Many people were ordering this item too.

These are on my to try list next time I go.

It’s located where the old Silver Town cafe used to be. They have hk style food and are known for their soups which you can mix and match.

    1. Ya we’ve been to Cattle Cafe too and tried their mix and match noodles. However we were not too impressed with it. We might try the snacks ie. the toast and the bubble waffle next time though.

Oh ya, Cattle Cafe is actually located at the strip mall where Sun Tung Kee Hot Pot is, right beside Soul Robata & Izakaya.

Comment? Question? I'd love to hear from you!
