Le Song at Chelsea Market – New York

Le Song New York - Happy Hour Menu

I had been looking up Happy Hour places for $1 oysters in New York.  The place that I found was in Chelsea Market and they only had Happy Hour at the bar and each time (twice) we tried to go, they’ll tell us it’s 30 minutes non-guaranteed wait.  I found that too snooty so we never waited.  The first time around, I ended up finding Le Song, which is also inside Chelsea Market, also has buck-a-shuck and it’s throughout the restaurant.  So we ended up there instead before our dinner at La Villetta.

Le Song has a super aesthetically pleasing decor.  I especially loved the spider plants all over the restaurant.  The whole place has a rustic and homey feel.

Le Song New York - Happy Hour drinks

For Happy Hour, the house white and red were $5, as was the a daily beer.  I don’t remember what it was but I don’t think AngryRussian was too impressed with it.  The white was also ok and it did the job, and honestly for $5 for a quick  sip and bite before our dinner that night, there’s nothing to complain about.

Edit: Reviewing the bill, they actually overcharged the wine by $1, so it was $6 instead of $5 as stated on the sandwich board.

The HH cocktail for $8 was something off the menu.  On this day is was something made with bourbon and honey which really didn’t entice me tremendously.

Le Song New York - Happy Hour $1 oysters

I ordered half a dozen of their $1 oysters.  They never mentioned what they were and I didn’t ask.  I must say though that either the oyster shucker was very new, or they were busy, or just didn’t care, as there were many, MANY shell shards throughout.

It came with a prosecco mignonette which really wasn’t that good.  I stayed with the lemon.

Service was also quite slow…I guess to match their relaxed atmosphere.  I did see someone order their chocolate souffle though and I really wanted it but AngryRussian reminded me that we had dinner later…

I wasn’t too impressed with the oysters at Le Song so I don’t think I’ll be back for those.  However there are items on the regular menu that do look enticing so perhaps if we’re back we might have a meal here.
