Eh! Restaurant

Wendy and I had a WagJag deal for Eh! Restaurant so we decided to head down to the Alberni & Thurlow location to check it out.  Prices seemed quite reasonable for this area with many entrees on the rather sparse menu under $10 before the discount.

The decor was kind of a cafe meets japanese restaurant vibe with a good mix of electro-house playing on the sound system at a reasonable volume.  The staff seemed to have been plucked from the ESL school down the hall; when I ordered my main dish I had great difficulty conveying my request for a whole wheat tortilla with the waitress questioning me about whether it was a type of sauce :P   Despite communication barriers they were very friendly however noone came around to ask if our food or drinks were ok except to warn us when the kitchen was about to close.

To start we tried the Vegetarian Spring Rolls.  The shell was nicely crisp and they were twice the size of your usual spring roll.  The mango chili sauce wasn’t bad, basically a sweet & sour sauce with a mild kick to it.  The pickled ginger didn’t add anything to the flavour so after trying a piece of the ginger we left the rest untouched.  Overall fairly satisfying but a bit steep at $7.95 considering it’s a meat free dish and when compared to the pricing for the rest of the menu.

The King’s Head Pub

The King’s Head Pub really isn’t a place I would’ve chosen to go to, based on how it looks.  It looks really dingy and dark and dirty.  However the reviews mostly seem to be good, citing good food, good drinks, good atmosphere.  Plus, the new friend that I made  suggested we go there as it’s one of his favorite haunts, so there I was as an adventure~

It’s your basic pub restaurant with the usual types of food- steak, burgers, fish & chips, pizza, beer, etc.

It was actually $6.99 pizza night, so we both ordered one.  My choice was the Steak & Mushroom.  It was decent.  It had a thin crust, but the middle part seemed to be soggy.  There was an abundance of topping though, with lots of mushrooms and steak pieces.  It was very tasty despite the soggy parts.

Pinky’s Steakhouse & Cocktail Lounge

The night we had dinner at Pinky’s was during the Olympics.  As expected, anywhere else from the Downtown core has very little business during those two weeks, doesn’t matter what day of the week.

Pinky’s, being in Kitsilano, was no exception.  We were probably the 3rd table there that whole night.

Which was fine with us.

It’s actually a very nicely decorated restaurant.  Very modern, albeit a bit dark.  I imagine it can get quite noisy here since it is still kind of small, and the bar is right in the middle of it all.

I started off with the Yazuka ($9), which is a Sake blended drink with lychee and peach schnapps.

It came smaller than I already expected.  The glass doesn’t even look full.  Oh well.  It was refreshing and of course, peachy.  I did have to savor every drop though.

We ordered two appetizers to start.  We figured that since we’re at a steakhouse (this was one of those steakhouses where when you order a steak, it ONLY comes with that steak, plus an onion ring), we need to get some fiber intake somewhere.  So one of our appies was a salad.

Mom and PS originally wanted the Caesar salad, but I voted against it since it’s actually not very healthy for you.  I asked that we had the House Salad instead which was served with blue cheese, pecans and cranberries.  I love any salad with cranberries.  And blue cheese.  This was very good.

Ruby’s Diner

Wendy and I have been in Washington State quite a bit this year.  We usually stay the night at her relative’s home and then roam the highways of the I5.   The funny thing is that we usually end up at Alderwood Mall.  Wendy loves her Sephora and I like sitting in that one shop with all the massage chairs and devices.  One thing we did this time but never before was to visit Ruby’s Diner.  It is basically at one end of the food court.  You really can’t miss it.

We didn’t really plan to come here, but we knew it would a place to blog about.  It has a 1950-60s decorum and all the waitresses were dressed similarly.

As evidence of my above statement regarding the waitresses.

Yum.  First meal of the day for us were milkshakes!  Wendy chose the Vanilla Blackcherry while I got the Butterfinger.  Both were definitely sweet as expected.  I REALLY enjoyed the Butterfinger bits and loves chewing on them.  The Vanilla Blackcherry shake had bits of cherry pieces in there as well.  A nice start to our meals.

Get ANGRY for $1.40!!

Back again to the Burger King!  After our positive reviews the last couple of times have encouraged us to return once more!  This time the new promotion is the ANGRY SPICY CHICKEN!  There’s an Angry Whopper too!  But tonight, Wendy and I were not too hungry so we just shared one Angry Chicken Sandwich.  Needless to say, we ordered Iced Mochas to chase down the “angryness”.

Oh yeah! Look at that yumminess!  Basically, it’s just a standard original chicken sandwich with bacon and special sauce on top (we could not find the anger, btw).  The chicken seemed to have been freshly prepared and the bun was fresh as well (there were a couple of experience far back when I was served a bun that was stale).

Wendy’s Spicy Chicken Sandwich

G’s birthday was yesterday and to celebrate we all went out for lunch at work.  He didn’t have a particular place in mind but he chose Wendy’s in the end ‘cuz he felt like having a Frosty.

In the end I chose the Spicy Chicken Sandwich Combo ($7.02 with tax) even though I was weary that it’ll be over spicy.

It wasn’t.  There was a kick to it but I could handle it.  It was really good.  The bun was fresh and soft.  The patty was fresh.  I like how they use large leaves of lettuce instead of the shredded stuff.

Carl’s Jr

Wendy and I are in Obama-land again!  We were in search of July 4th savings at Bellis Fair and the Chelsea Premium Outlet (shameless plugs, I know).  Wendy had planned it that we visit Carl’s Jr that was located beside my beloved Taco Bell.  It was a really hot day (32C) when we got there during the late afternoon and it seemed the like perfect weather to pig out with burgers, fries and soft drinks.

One of the prettiest photos of a burger I have EVER seen.  OMG, *mouth watering*.  It was without a shadow of a doubt that we will order this burger.

We were very surprised as to the variety of burgers available.  We knew for certain that we will return again to test out these creations.  Perhaps our readers can leave comments as to what to try next!
