Waffle Gone Wild is a new-ish waffle cafe that has opened a location in Burnaby. I only found out about it when I saw the deal they had on Groupon. I saw “Japanese Mochi Waffle” on their menu and I was done. I had to go. I brought C-Dizzle with me on this endeavor.
Waffle Gone Wild is located on Canada Way by Boundary. They’ve got free parking in a lot right beside them.
The cafe was bigger than I thought it would be. I didn’t think it would be an actual sit-down place where they bring you a menu at your table, take your order and everything!
The Groupon includes any waffle and any drink so I opted for a Lavender Milk Tea with pearls. In real life the color is more lavendery, like what the taro flavor would look like.
This had a very strong lavender aroma and I couldn’t decide whether I liked it or not. It tasted perfumey but it didn’t deter me from continuing to ingest it. The pearls were sweetened and had a nice chew.
For my waffle order I had the Strawberry Heaven Deluxe which has a strawberry and coconut waffle base, topped with fresh strawberries, dark chocolate sauce, whipped cream and vanilla ice cream.
The waffle actually has strawberries and coconut incorporated into the batter so I had intermittent bites of strawberry freshness. I’m a mochi fanatic so I also upgraded my waffle to have mochi baked into the waffle too!! It was heaven indeed.
I think the waffles are still Liege version based so it still had the yeasty flavour associated with it. However it wasn’t as sweet as liege waffles I’ve had before, probably due to the lack of sugar pearls. It was good.
C-Dizzle had the Fresh Apple & Cheese waffle, which has fresh apple slices and cheddar cheese sandwiched in between the waffle slices. It came with a green salad.
It was an enjoyable outing and the owner was super friendly and personable. I will definitely be back.
