One of my main food objectives when I was in Hawaii was to taste the fish available there that I couldn’t have at home, so I was really excited to go to Paia Fish Market for dinner with AngryRussian’s friends one night.
The way they do things here is, you order at the counter, then you get a seat, and they’ll bring your food to you. Drinks you serve yourself, unless it’s alcohol.
For my entree I chose Fish Tacos ($12.95USD dinner price) since I was so stuffed from Happy Hour at Three’s and South Shore Tiki Lounge. My choice of fish was the Opah, which means there’s an extra charge ($2) as it’s considered a premium fish. The plate came with coleslaw, tartar sauce, and choice of home fries or cajun rice.
I must say, I wasn’t impressed at all with the tacos because there wasn’t enough fish to the amount of veggies presented. The Opah was dry so I don’t know if it’s because it’s overcooked. The fries were good though. I wish I wasn’t so stuffed and had ordered the straight fish dinner plate instead where I could’ve tasted the fish better.
AngryRussian chose the dinner platter of Blackened Snapper ($25.95USD market price). It also came with the same sides as mine, and he chose cajun rice.
This was delicious although the spices really covered any taste of the fish itself. The portion of fish was huge too.
So in all can’t say I’m too impressed…next time in Maui I might scope out another fish restaurant instead…or head back to Kinaole Grill!
