Hi AngryRussian here! On the afternoon of Saturday November 3rd, 2 friends and I, Noles and Junk, went up to the Westwood Plateau Golf and Country Club for the bi-annual Coquitlam Craft Beer Festival. It’s a great no-token beer fest with around 40 beer/cider/food stalls. It was my 3rd time at the event and I’ve noticed that it seems to be a beer fest where a lot of the breweries are bringing some of their newer experimental brews versus their already established beers.
Here are the Top 10 new beers we tasted this time around:
#10: Main Street Brewing “Barking Mad Plum Porter”
#9: Vancouver Island Brewing “Broken Islands Hazy IPA”
#8: Lighthouse Brewing “Nightwatch Coffee Lager”
#7: Category 12 Brewing “Juicy Data Hazy IPA”
#6: Callister Brewing “Thorn Patch Blackberry Porter”
#5: Strathcona Beer Company “All That” Pale Ale w/ Mosaic Hops
#4: Main Street Brewing “Coconero Sweet Stout with Coconut”
#3:Collective Arts Brewing – Gose w/ Guava
#2: Mariner Brewing – Venture Strawberry Rhubarb Sour
(to be honest I had tried this previously and loved it)
#1: Russell “Papaya Milkshake IPA”
Honorable Mentions:
– Bridge Brewing Company “Bourbon Blood Orange – Wheat Ale”
– Bomber Brewing: Choqlette Porter with Cocoa Nibs and Toasted Coconut
– Dead Frog Brewery: Red Rum Spiced Red Ale
In 2019 they will be changing formats, from having Friday night and Saturday afternoon tastings to Saturday Afternoon and Saturday Evening tastings instead. So for the first event this year (Saturday, March 9th, 2019) you can choose either the matinee (12:30-3pm) or evening (7-9:30pm) tastings. Tickets are on sale now so get them while it’s hot!
