Today was a sort of family day. Dad was getting cataract surgery done at VGH so Mom and I drove him down there. When we dropped him off, we had about an hour to kill, so we thought of going somewhere. There really isn’t much around the W. Broadway/Oak area, so it took us quite a while to decide. Then I remembered that on 15th there’s a bakery that is pretty popular, so we decided to go there.
We arrived to Max’s Bakery & Delicatessen at around 12:30pm so it was lunch time. The place was packed. At first we were a bit flustered as too how to start and how to order. Then we realized we first take a number and wait for our number to be called to order.
It was quite a long wait…about 15mins.
The place was pretty big. Among the offerings were cheesecakes and tarts…
More fresh fruit tarts and other cakes and pastries…
An array of cookies, more pastries…
Savory items such as Jamaican Patties, quiches, salads, wraps, fresh made sandwichs (made to order), soups, etc etc.
And that’s not counting drinks! They have your many variations of coffee drinks, smoothies, juices, bottled drinks…..
Since we’re planning to go eat after the surgery, we didn’t want to get too many items. So in the end we got 2 desserts to share and Mom got a regular drip coffee.
Ever since Le Panier’s Napoleon, I’ve always wanted to find it again. This was very close, but not exactly the same. Firstly, this one has some sort of jam in it, and it seems to be cream cheese based instead of the usual custard based. It wasn’t as good as the original, but it’ll suffice.
The top icing part was extremely sweet though. This was ~$4.89?
The other item I chose was the Apple Caramel Cheesecake. This was very very good. The cream cheese was very very prominent which I liked – it tells me that they did not skimp on ingredients. There were apple pieces within the cheesecake too. However, the caramel part of this cheesecake was not noticed. This was about the same price as the Napolean too I think.
As I don’t drink coffee, I’ll have to rely on Mom’s opinion on it. She says that it was quite good for drip coffee- quite a lot of flavor.
My only gripe was that it’s so out of the way for me. Or else I’ll be there all the time! Or maybe that’s a good thing…a Napolean Bar per day can NOT be good for me!
wow what an assortment! O_O Oh yes! Today I was out with husband and I remembered you mentioning about Ellie’s great laksa… we went there and found it closed, for good?! ^^;;;;; We went to try G-men lol! didn’t order takoyaki tho 😛
Is that true??? That’s terrible!!!! I’ve only had their laksa once and have been dying to go back!!! I hope it’s only temporary!!!
I hope they’ll come back too o_o Hard to find good Laksa here ^^;
The laksa at Crystal mall food court isn’t bad. I can’t remember the name of the restaurant but you can totally tell it’s singaporean once you get there.
Give it a try guys.
