On a trip to the States with Pretty Sis, Aunt Aggy and Uncle Walken took us for a mini morning winery + wine tasting tour. Chateau Ste. Michelle Winery is situated at a sort of industrial area where there are a bunch of other wineries. This particular one was chosen for the abundance of awards their assortment of wine has won. They’re also considered a global leader in the production of Riesling.
The Chateau is also the grounds of an outdoor amphitheater that plays host to some pretty well-known acts such as John Legend, Sarah McLachlan, One Republic, and Counting Crows. This might be a good place to check out during the summer.
Their wines have won high ratings too!
The whole tour of the Chateau Ste. Michelle winery took about 30 minutes but despite it being short, it was sufficiently informative. Sure they’ll tell you the common knowledge of pairing reds with red meats and whites with seafood, chicken, etc. But they also tell you how different types of irrigation yield different tasting wine, and the life journey of a wine barrel, too!!
An example of what I learned?? Well, barrels cost approx. $1000+ if they’re from France, while local American ones are around $500+. Also, after they’ve finished their life cycle as a wine barrel, they get sold off to liquor distillers such as whiskey makers and such, and afterwards, interestingly, their last stop would be for Tabasco sauce!!
After the tour, it was time for the wine-tasting. We got to taste 3 different types- Chardonnay, Cabernet Sauvignon, and a Muscat Canelli which was my favorite, because it was a dessert wine with hints of peach!!! Yum!!!
Then of course there is the store. It had a very wide selection of wines and the prices really are very reasonable. Best of all?? The tour was free!! The grounds were very nice also. The day we went Washington had just snowed the day before so it was beautiful, albeit extremely chilly. But a few glasses of wine should remedy that~
Which should explain why we had pictures like this…
