Seasons in the Park

We went out for a family dinner and the restaurant my mom chose was Seasons in the Park located in Queen Elizabeth Park (did you know that this park is actually situated on top of an extinct volcano??).  My mom heard that it has a beautiful view so we decided to go and see.

Indeed, it was a beautiful view from the top.  As we were on a hill, you have basically see the night view of Vancouver through their semi-panoramic windows.

We each had an appetizer to start.

Seasons in the Park: Steamed Clams & Mussels

Steamed Clams & Mussels
Thai red curry lemongrass broth, fresh cilantro $13

The broth was very tasty.  We sopped up all the remaining broth with the bread they gave us in the beginning.  The mussels were fat and juicy.

Seasons in the Park: Grilled Calamari Steak

Grilled Calamari Steak
warm Sicilian caponata, baby arugula $13

The calamari was very tender.  The balsamic vinegar and olive oil mix was excellent with the arugula.  I didn’t really like the mushroom filling inside the steak though as it was a bit too salty.

Seasons in the Park: Caesar Salad

Caesar Salad
parmesan, capers, garlic croutons $10

Meh~  What can I say, it was overpriced.

Seasons in the Park: Carrot Ginger Soup

Carrot Ginger Soup
cilantro chantilly, chive oil $7

Again, overpriced.  Don’t know why my sister chose this but she was craving soup ’cause it was a cold night.

Of the above selections, I enjoyed the calamari steak (my choice) and the clams & mussels (dad’s) the most.  Obviously I’m a seafood fan~

On to the entrees!

Seasons in the Park: Peppercorn Crusted Rack of Lamb

Peppercorn Crusted Rack of Lamb
star anise infused demi-glace, garlic mashed potatoes $34

Lamb is always a good choice.  This was good as it was done to a perfect medium rare and the crust was very flavorful.

Seasons in the Park: Grilled 10 oz New York Steak

Grilled 10 oz New York Steak
bourbon green peppercorn demi-glace, blue cheese butter, garlic mashed potatoes $30

I’m not much of a steak fan lately, so I wasn’t too wow-ed by this.  My sister liked it though.  I found it was a bit too well-cooked even though she ordered medium-rare.  I’ll pick lamb over steak any day.  Having said that, my sister enjoyed this a lot.

Seasons in the Park: Steak and Prawns

This was something on their Daily Special Menu, so I’m not even sure of the price.  Basically, it consisted of jumbo prawns and steak.  I enjoyed the prawns.  The steak tasted like my sister’s entree.

Seasons in the Park: Miso Soy Marinated Black Cod

Miso Soy Marinated Black Cod
pineapple chive vinaigrette, jasmine rice $26

This was my choice of course, and I loved it.  Black Cod might just be my favorite fish to order if it wasn’t always so damn expensive, it usually runs close to $30 at most other restaurants.  The fish was very flavorful, very typical of black cod.  The tropical-esque flavor of the vinaigrette complimented the jasmine rice very well and I pretty much cleared the plate.

After appys and entrees, we were stuffed, so we didn’t have any dessert.  All-in-all it was a very satisfying and wonderful dinner.
