Wendy and I have been wanting to come to this place for a while. We have been at Excellent Tofu a couple of times in the past and it was quite good. After we had dinner, we rushed to Excellent Tofu at Central Square to try to get there before 9pm, only to find that it closes at 10pm! There were a few people in there as it was getting late in the day but usually the place does have its share of customers.
We didn’t hide the old man’s face because he was our server/cook/cashier all-in-one! The guy spoke English fluently with little to no Chinese accent!
Here’s what we ordered:
Grass Jelly Tofu Pudding – $3.25
Taro and Coconut Milk Tofu Pudding – $3.75
You will see in the background of both pictures there is a bottle of brown liquid. It’s ginger sugar syrup! I basically showered my pudding with it (Wendy loves it too since she usually uses up half the bottle…) It is truly the centerpiece of the dessert (ok, maybe not, but it’s still wonderful). The grass jelly was served in tiny cubes and the tofu was super smooth as usual. An “excellent” addition!
Wendy says hers was very coconutty due to the coconut milk. The taro was cooked through so they were soft and sweet.
We decided to do take out for my dad. Since he loves green beans…
Wendy and I didn’t get a taste it as we were already stuffed. My dad claims it to be ‘excellent’!!!
The final bill was $10.25 + tips. The cost printed on the menu includes tax! You don’t see that every day!
If you are in Richmond and feel like a light sweet snack, please do consider Excellent Tofu. Parking at Central Square during the day is a bit tough but in the evening it gets much better. Enjoy!
I did not know there were any places that seved tofu pudding!!! I love it but I never have any..
My mom used to buy buckets of it from some place in chinatown, but don’t know why she stopped.
It’s great stuff! You should really get your mom to buy them again!
